Las Cruces
White Sands National Park
We had a well deserved sleep in this morning, I didn’t get out of bed till 8am. It was only about a 45 minute drive to White Sands National Park so we took our time. On the way to the park we went past White Sands Missile Range. Craig really wanted to go in and see the museum there but all museums in New Mexico are shut due to COVID. Oh well, we will have to come back here.
When we arrived at White Sands we stopped at the gift shop and bought 2 sleds then set out to find the best slope for sledding. The park has a 7 mile loop road that starts in desert terrain then intra-dunal terrain and finally in the dunes proper. We found a good spot close to the end of the road.
The pictures and the videos tell most of the story of the fun we had sledding down the dunes.
We were able to trade the sleds back in at the end, we didn’t get much for them but at least we don’t have to carry them all the way back to Florida.
On the way back to the hotel we took a drive through an old village where Billy the Kid was put on trial.
