Wisconsin Dells

Feb 24 – Mar 3 2018

It was nearing the end of the snow season at the Wisconsin Dells when we were there at the end of February. We stayed at Christmas Mountain and the skiing was just fair. The milder weather gave us a chance to explore the area a little.

Mirror Lake State Park

This was my first experience with a frozen lake. Watching my daughter walk out on the ice was a little nerve wracking. I was imagining the ice breaking beneath her. There were many fisherman still out on the ice so that made me feel a little better. I wouldn’t have to use my non-existent ice rescue skills today. There are some nice walk around the park but ice made a couple of the trails a little tricky to negotiate.

Devils Lake State Park

Devil’s Lake State Park is a short drive from the village of Wisconsin Dells and it is well worth the effort to get there. The hike to the top of the bluff overlooking the lake has some amazing vistas. There was a little ice amongst the rocks as we were climbing but nothing that made it too hazardous.

Natural Bridge State Park

As I am not a skier I visited Natural Bridge State Park by myself while Craig and Geordie did a day of skiing. There is a fairly short loop hike to the bridge and back again. There are no amenities at all at the park so come prepared with everything. The hike will only take an hour or so depending on how often you stop to enjoy the scenery.
