Agate Fossil Beds National Monument

The Agate Fossil Beds are in western Nebraska about an hours drive north of Scottsbluff. A large fossilizes leg bone was found by James Cook on his land in 1887. Since then large numbers of fossilized bones and complete skeletons of prehistoric animals have been found in the vicinity. The bones were found around ancient waterholes. It is thought the waterholes dried up in a time of drought and the animals died in the shallow waters of a few remaining ponds.

Scotts Bluff National Monument

31st October, 2019
My niece was attending school at Western Nebraska Community College so my sister flew from Australia, met me in Florida and we flew into Denver, Colorado to start the trek north to visit. From the moment we left the plane in Denver we were freezing. We drove through light snow all the way to Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

Shenandoah National Park

June 5th – 9th 2019
We headed from our campsite at Prince William Forest Park near Washington DC to the entrance of the Shenandoah National Park. We made a quick stop at Front Royal to pick up some supplies for the next couple of days and headed into the park. It took us about 2 hours to get to Big Meadows Campground at mile marker 51.

Blue Mountains

December 11, 12 2017
I remember driving to the Blue Mountains when I was young. We lived in Sydney so it was a nice day trip. It left me in awe then as it has every time I have managed to make the trip.

Chicago

December 27-30 2018
This was a very quick trip to Chicago on our way to the Wisconsin Dells with our good friends the DeWitts. We had 2 days to enjoy the city. The first stop was The Bean in Millennium Park and a little bit of ice skating.
